Create an org-wide contact custom-field DEFINITION (name + type: TEXT | NUMBER | DOLLAR | DATE | LINK | DROPDOWN; options required for DROPDOWN; allowMultiple optional), synchronously. Returns the org custom-field catalog: find the new id by name (or listContactCustomFields), then write values via addCustomFieldValues (createContact) / updateCustomFieldValues (updateContact). A defaultValue fills every contact lacking a value, archived too, and stays if later changed; nothing counts them: ask first.

Variables

The example sends only what the schema requires. Some operations also need one of several optional variables (one filter or another, say); the description above says which.

inputCreateCustomFieldInput!required
nameString!required
typeContactCustomFieldType!required
DROPDOWNTEXTNUMBERDOLLARDATELINK
descriptionString
options[String!]
defaultValueString
allowMultipleBoolean
allowAutomationOptionsBoolean

Dropdown only: allow apply-time automation to mint new options. Default false.

matchInboundTextsByValueBoolean

Text only: link an unknown number's text that quotes this value to its holder. Default false. Matches only a 6-64 character value, no spaces, mixing letters and digits.

Response

What comes back under data: a list shows as one entry, and a value as its type.

Errors

Idempotency

Send an Idempotency-Key of 1 to 255 characters. A finished request retried with the same key replays its stored response, marked Idempotency-Replayed: true; one still in flight returns 409 idempotency_conflict. Keys expire after 24 hours. Write without fear →
